(RE) generate
Brief: Design a proposal for a new quarterly journal ‘(Re)generate’ celebrating seminal & contemporary design essays. The intention is to encourage a renaissance in graphic design criticism and to elevate the international significance of the original writing, as well as showcase beautifully considered and elegantly crafted typography. The first (pilot) issue will feature articles that focus on typographic discussion and debate, with an introduction written by a contemporary designer..

Concept
One of the main things that inspired the idea for this publication was the punk typography from the ‘90s. the punk scene was very controversial and broke many rules in design and typography. As well as breaking the rules of typography, I wanted the designs to still be legible so people could still enjoy the essays inside as well as the overall design. I wanted to use a mixture of hand-rendered text as well as a body of text in clear boxes. This juxtaposes the design in a contrasting manner. it’s a good balance between mess and structure.
